#WhiteGirlWednesday role model - Sarah Nowak
For this Black History month, I’d like to share the real, but untold contributions and cooperation between white women and black men throughout history. White women have contributed so much to black history, and continue to do so. It is untold because interaction between black men and white women has, until very recently, been strictly forbidden and even illegal at times. Individual black men and white women interacted only at great costs and peril to themselves.
During the Civil War and before, most advocates and supporters of anti-slavery were white women. Uncle Tom’s Cabin, a piece of literature expounded on the degradations of slavery, was written by a housewife from Connecticutt. Many white women helped runaway slaves reach freedom along the Underground Railroad network.
In the early 1900s, the Suffragette movement was closely allied with the NAACP, as both movements had similar goals for equality, one for women, the other for blacks.
After World War II, women in war ravaged Germany, Italy, England, France and Japan indirectly helped in the process of ending segregation within the US military. Black American service members stationed in these nations were often forbidden from interacting with local women. Nonetheless, German, English, French, Italian, and Japanese women, living in countries in which the male population had significantly declined through losses from war, often demanded interaction with Black American service members. The post war birth rate of mixed children in these countries soared as a result.
The 1960s can be seen as the root of today’s phenomenal growth of interracial relationships between white women and black men, and as before, the catalyst was social change. Once again, the common cause was equal rights in the form of the Civil Rights Era. White women, styled as Hippies, often collaborated with black men. These few pioneering women were liberal in nature, often rebelling against the established system of white male patriarchy, and so interacting with black males who’s fight for civil rights so closely mirrored their rebellion, was a natural outcome.
Today, white women again are siding with and identifying more with black men in the Black Lives Matter and Refugees Welcome movements, and standing against a resurgence of white male patriarchy in the form of the newly elected American president and conservative European governments. The numbers of interactions between white women and black males is growing more today than at anytime in history, and with it the mixed race child birth rate is the fastest growing type of childbirth rate in both America and Europe.
Interracial interactions between white women and black men is so much more than the sexual fetish most view it as. It is a Revolutionary social movement with deep roots between opposing genders of two seperate races that seeks equality, not through laws, but through love and respect of each other. There can be no other greater love than that between a white woman and black man, and it is for that reason these interactions should continue to increase.
Happy Black History month and make lots of mixed babies! :)
